How it works
Official information scattered across campus sites, PDFs, forms and service desks, turned into tasks an international student can actually finish.

01The system
One announcement. Six steps to action.
Keep scrolling: watch one announcement become a task, a stage at a time.
01/06Source intake
Stage 1 of 6: Source intake
01Stage
Source intake
Public pages, PDFs, scanned documents read by OCR, and forwarded email all enter the same way.
02Stage
Task fields
One announcement is split into who it applies to, the deadline, the documents and the definition of done.
03Stage
Source and version
Every field keeps where it came from and which version it is, so it can be traced back later.
04Stage
Human review
The school checks it before any student sees it. Quality is not left to a model's own assurance.
05Stage
Publish
Live on the student side the moment it ships, and withdrawable the moment it is wrong or expired.
06Stage
Progress and support
Done, stuck, withdrawn and handed to a person are explicit states, so the system knows where each thing stands.
02Origin
The need came from an international student on our own team
This did not start in a meeting room. It started with a process a teammate runs every semester.
- An announcement or a PDF arrives, in Chinese.
- Even once the words are translated, the deadline, the documents and the counter are on three other sites.
- Then you ask a classmate or the international office to piece the rest together.
- So we wrote that path down as a system.
03Scale
One everyday barrier, and a hundred and forty thousand people crossing it
The difficulty is not one bad afternoon. It is the same procedural information being found again from scratch.
140,417international students, broadly defined, in the 2025–26 academic year
The three difficulties one survey ranked highest:
4,691 valid survey responses
These figures are quoted from statistics published by the bodies below. We have not re-derived them ourselves.

04The gap
The information exists. The path through it does not.
The problem is not that nothing can be found. It is that each answer solves one short stretch.
- A student checks eligibility, the deadline, the documents and the right counter separately.
- One errand is spread across a campus page, a PDF, a form and something somebody said.
- The international office answers and re-routes the same question over and over.
- What is missing is a system that threads the fragments into one task.
05One task
From the checklist, one click to steps you can follow
Open a task and you get a record you can check, not a paragraph you have to trust.
- Verified on
- The date a person last checked this page, and when it is due to be read again.
- Risk level
- Whether getting it wrong affects your status or your entitlements — marked in words and in shape, never colour alone.
- Cited official sources
- Every claim links to the official page it came from, so you can open it and check for yourself.
- Estimated time
- Knowing how long it takes is what lets you fit it into a day.
- Step by step
- What to bring, where to go and what comes next, written one step at a time.
- Reach a person
- When the page cannot settle it, the 1990 hotline and your university's international office are right there.
That is the difference from a translator or a chatbot: the information is wired to finishing the task, not to explaining the words.
The public page shows the pattern common to every campus. Your own school's deadlines and counters appear on your checklist once that school publishes them through the admin console.
06Shipped
Not a proposal. A system that already runs.
The student side and the admin side are both finished, and the content, the workflow and the tests live in one repository.
- Stack
- React 19 · TypeScript · Cloudflare Worker · D1
- Content
- 16 life tasks, 16 of them carrying a source list and a verification date, plus 16 practice scenarios, citing 38 source pages in total.
- Tests
- 27 product tests, alongside linting and a production build, all run in continuous integration.
Capabilities
- Sign-in and roles
- Source import
- Content review
- Publish and withdraw
- Progress and saved tasks
- Error reports
- Audit trail
The management features listed above are implemented. The public site serves the task content and a local checklist; it opens neither sign-in nor the admin console.
Survive in Taiwan
07Scaling
Start where the need is densest. The system itself is not rebuilt.
International students are highly concentrated, so entering the market does not mean serving every campus at once.

Shared layer
- The task data structure
- The student checklist
- The admin console
- Done and blocked states
Local layer
- Each school's rules and forms
- Each school's deadlines
- Each school's service desks
- Each school's content versions
- Start with the life tasks one campus's international students run most often.
- Connect the school's own sources, its content owner and its update process.
- For the next school, keep the system and swap the official sources and rules.
08Team and next
The person who raised the problem is on the team that built the answer
The need and the system sit in one team, so a problem does not have to be translated before it becomes a feature.
Who does what
- Our international-student member: names the real breaks in the information.
- Product and UX: turns those into a flow and an interface.
- AI and systems: builds the source import, the data structures, the site and the database.
- Source governance and school liaison: keeps the content being updated.
Ways in
- NowThe student website and the school's admin console.
- NextA Chrome extension that adds a task to your list while you are reading the campus page.
- After thatA phone app for reminders and for checking progress anywhere.
Every way in shares the same task data, the same sources and the same completion state.
